Johannesburg 2010
Johannesburg, 2010, Acrylic on canvas, 24″ x 30″, 2010
This painting was inspired by the world cup taking place in South Africa in 2010. The player, wearing a traditional mask from the host country, is striding into the ball, about to shoot on goal. Behind him are monumental masks from different parts of the continent, silent witnesses of the historic event about to take place in a country which has gone through enormous change and upheaval over the past 25 years. The masks During the exhibition of this and other works at the V. Trimont Gallery in Montreal, I was invited to create a drawing live on Canadian national television(Radio-Canada) on the occasion of the opening of world cup coverage.
